A press trip will be held on the Island of Arran from Wednesday 6 September – Friday 8 September to raise the awareness of Arran as a low-cost, easy-access destination for visitors, especially those interested in outdoor activities and food & drink. The trip will encompass activities, sight-seeing and the main attractions of the island.

Targeting the leisure market, the aim is to get as much press coverage and support as possible from target geographic destinations, and to build press relationships to ensure on-going coverage/working partnerships. We are also working in partnership with Caledonian MacBrayne for ferry travel, and suppliers on the island with arrangements for the group.

The trip aims to take advantage of the transport infrastructure around Ayrshire & Arran which encompasses excellent road, sea, air and rail links with the remainder of the UK, N & S Ireland.

Planning and implementing the trip provided the perfect opportunity to bring together 3 different teams within VisitScotland:

Marketing, Prestwick Network Office: Joan Stewart, Marketing Executive and Shirley Sloan, Marketing Administrator

Consumer PR: Jenny Glumoff, Senior PR Executive – Freedom, Liz Ware, Consumer PR Executive - London Office and Gillian Thompson, Assistant PR Executive

Active Brand, UK & Ireland Marketing: Steve Duncan - Product Manager - Adventure, Walking & Cycling

Journalists will be offered a 'menu' of walking and activity options, tying these in with sight-seeing and attractions.

Media joining the trip; NTL World with 3 million users and the UK's largest provider of residential broadband services; Manchester Evening News with a circulation of 148,000 / readership 391,000, biggest regional daily evening newspaper in the north; Sunday Life has a circulation 84,084 / readership 248,000 and is N Ireland's best selling local Sunday title boasting over 54,000 more readers than nearest local rival; Trail Magazine has a circulation of 42,000 and is the UK's leading walking / hiking magazine, published monthly by EMAP; the Essex Chronicle has a circulation 42,000 / readership 125,000 and is the biggest weekly selling newspaper in this region, most trusted medium in it’s area; and finally Walking World, Ireland with a circulation of 14,850 and distributed throughout N & S Ireland, retail & subscription.
