Falkirk’s tourist information centre is set for a relocation to the Falkirk Wheel, where it will take advantage of the attraction’s annual 0.44 million visitors to more effectively promote the Falkirk area.
The new site at the entrance to the Falkirk Wheel will increase the centre’s footfall by well in excess of 2,000%, extend the centre’s opening hours to include year-round Sunday opening and create two new seasonal jobs to join the existing staff.
VisitScotland will continue to provide tourist information services in Falkirk town centre through the installation of an unstaffed information point, and is currently working with Falkirk Council to introduce a facility at The Steeple, where there is already a box office.
The relocation plan has been developed following a review of information services at the Glebe Street centre, where enquiry figures have declined by 35% over the last decade, and in 2007 year-to-date, have dropped by a further 23% on last year.
The dramatic rise in visitor numbers at the new site will allow the centre to better promote the area’s attractions and other tourism businesses and keep visitors in Falkirk for longer.
