This year’s Highlands & Islands Music and Dance Festival has been another roaring success, and the VisitScotland’s Oban office has shown support with the presentation of a quaich to the festival chairman.
In its 24th year, the festival continues to grow with new events and competition classes. Now expanded from its origins as a one-day event to a four-day festival and one of the foremost events in Oban’s calendar, the 2007 festival took place from 3 to 6 May.
VisitScotland area director Iain Close attended this year with Riona MacInnes from Oban tourist information centre to present a quaich to festival chairman Don MacAllister. The quaich was for the Scottish section of the piano classes, won by Alasdair Paterson from Bishopton.
Iain Close said:
“The Highlands & Islands Music and Dance Festival is attracting around a thousand competitors and their families, and we’re delighted to be associated with such a big success for Argyll.
“We’re all looking forward to a big influx of tourists for the 25th festival next year, and it would be great to have our tourist information centre closely involved, possibly even as a competition venue,” he said.
