Jim Linley, one of Scottish tourism’s most inspirational figures, who spearheaded the success of Inveraray Jail, has died after a short illness, aged 75.
Jim had recently taken retirement from his position as Governor of Inveraray Jail in November after 14 years service at the attraction, having started there as one of the original employees at its 1989 opening.
He led the team at the Jail to success after success, accumulating awards including the European Museum of the Year award, a Scottish Thistle Award, National Heritage Museum of the Year Award, Interpret Britain Award and the BTA Come to Britain Trophy. He also achieved VisitScotland’s five star Visitor Attraction award for the Jail.
Jim was also the chairman of Inveraray Marketing Group, playing a key role in making it the successful and forward-thinking industry group that placed Inveraray firmly on the tourism map.
He worked tirelessly over many years to increase the profile of tourism in Scotland and was widely respected in the industry.
