Oban and Inveraray attract major events

Time to get those long-range planners up to date, with news announced earlier this month about two major events coming to Argyll in the next couple of years.

An Comunn Gaidhealach has announced that the Royal National Mod is to return to Oban for a 15th year in 2009. The Gaelic festival of music and culture will be titled ‘The Year of the Homecoming’, as it will be held during the year-long Homecoming Scotland 2009 celebrations aimed at bringing as many as possible of the world’s millions of ‘affinity Scots’ home in the same year.

Before then, there’s good news for Inveraray too with the announcement that T in the Park organisers DF Concerts are to hold a new music festival called ‘Connect’ at Inveraray Castle on 1 and 2 September 2007.

Although not expected to be on quite the same gigantic scale as the established summer festival in Perthshire, DF Concerts are still predicting an overall audience of around 20,000 for the two days, in what’s described as a festival for ‘a more musically discerning audience’.

The line-up is still to be confirmed, but the names are certain to be big. For more information as it’s released, visit: http://www.connectmusicfestival.com

Accommodation for both these events is likely to sell early, so if you’re an accommodation provider, be sure to keep the frontline staff in your local tourist information centre up to date with your availability.
