Welcome to area director Iain Close

VisitScotland has a new Area Director for Argyll, Loch Lomond & Forth Valley this week, in Iain Close.
Iain Close is a former Head of Sales for Post Office Limited (Scotland and the North East), and takes up his post with VisitScotland this week based at Stirling’s Old Town Jail. He will be visiting the various parts of the wider area in the coming weeks and months.
He has 17 years’ experience in a range of senior management roles. Having been responsible for approximately 250 regional branches and almost 2,000 staff, Iain has considerable experience managing large teams located in geographically different locations.
VisitScotland chief executive Philip Riddle believes Iain’s strengths in management and his ability to motivate staff and develop strong business relationships will stand him in good stead for his new role in the tourism industry.
“With more than 2,000 businesses in this area, 27 tourist information centres, and important partners such as local authorities and enterprise companies, we are confident that Iain will bring a wealth of experience to the role and to the area.
“Worth £660 million to Argyll, Loch Lomond &Forth Valley, tourism is the most important industry in the region and the whole of Scotland, so it is essential we attract high calibre people, to enable us to continue to achieve our growth ambitions for the future.”
Iain Close said: “I am really looking forward to taking up this position with VisitScotland. Argyll, Loch Lomond and the Forth Valley are wonderful areas to promote and I am passionate about this part of Scotland, which will make my role so much easier.”
Iain replaces James Fraser, who took early retirement from VisitScotland earlier this month to pursue interests in the private sector.
