Fortingall Hotel Awarded “Gold”
Fortingall Hotel, in the beautiful Arts and Crafts village of Fortingall at the foot of Glen Lyon, is delighted to announce this week that it has obtained the top ‘Gold’ award from the Green Tourism Business Scheme, becoming only the second hotel in Perthshire to achieve such status, the first being Gleneagles.
After a recent assessment, whereby every aspect of the hotel’s Environmental Policy was looked at, the award of this top accolade brought huge smiles to the team at the hotel. Everyone in the hotel has been involved in pulling together existing practices, as well as implementing new ones, in a cohesive strategy which considers the impact the hotel and its guests have on the environment.
By having staff accommodation and sharing car journeys, along with a strict purchasing policy from local suppliers, means that excess travel is kept to a minimum. The hotel has a comprehensive recycling system, reducing its landfill waste as much as possible.
Being located in such a beautiful area, the hotel also encourages its guests in the appreciation of the wildlife and the surroundings. There are bird feeders, nesting boxes and bat boxes as well as information books and leaflets along with details of walks, cycling information and local transport.
By teaming up with neighbouring Gold award winners, Highland Adventure Safaris, mutual benefits are gained by customers from both businesses.
