Spanish boost for Angus and Dundee

Spaniards have been encouraged to holiday in Angus and Dundee this summer on the back of FC Barcelona’s friendly against Dundee Utd last month.
Before the Barca giants descended on Dundee, the international marketing team at VisitScotland captured Spanish interest by running a targeted campaign in Spain, including the creation of a unique tartan for FC Barcelona, with the colours based on the club’s strip.
The number of Spanish visitors to Scotland has been showing excellent growth and VisitScotland is capitalising on this event to attract more visitors to follow in the footsteps of their football heroes. Promotional activity included a tartan taxi stunt in Barcelona, radio, press and online promotions and partnership deals with airline Flyglobespan.
In addition, the VisitScotland team hope that the players’ enthusiasm for Scotland will rub off on their fans. FC Barcelona’s Brazilian defender Silvinho said: “I really enjoyed playing in Dundee last year, it was a good occasion. It was a really good atmosphere - it always is when you are playing in Scotland. The cooler weather, nice facilities and good food are all great for us.”
The campaign involves a promotion with Catalan radio station Cadena Cien, national newspaper Avui and an online promo with Yahoo and Eurosport.
Spain is Scotland’s fifth largest international tourism market with 178,000 Spaniards visiting Scotland each year, spending £78 million.
