Apex Hotel leading the way with green and healthy food practices

The Apex City Quay Hotel & Spa is delighted be one of the first companies in Dundee to win the HealthyLiving accolade for Metro Brasserie & Bar. The award was presented to Executive Head Chef Bruce Price at a ceremony in Edinburgh last month.

Launched by the Scottish Consumer Council in 2006, the healthyliving award aims to make it easier for people to choose healthy options when they eat out and is aimed at a wide range of food outlets, from high street cafes and restaurants to workplace canteens and fast food vans.

The Apex Hotels group is also leading the way in good food practice having won the ‘Promoting Sustainable Food’ award at the Considerate Hotelier of the Year Awards 2007 at the end of last year.

  • Showing that small measures can make a huge difference, Apex Hotels has won this award based on its sustainable policies including:-
  • Using local produce wherever possible in order to reduce carbon footprint for deliveries;
  • Liaising regularly with suppliers to ensure menus are adapted to make the most of seasonal produce;
  • Supporting Scottish produce and small businesses;
  • Using as little packaging as possible for deliveries and where possible, recycle or return packaging to suppliers for re-use;
  • Using and promoting fair-trade, free range, organically certified and farm assured produce which is produced within 100 miles of Apex Hotels;
  • Stating the origin of food clearly on menus, ensuring consumers know exactly what they are ordering and eating;
