Award Winning Angus Glens Walking Festival 2008

The festival is based in Kirriemuir, the gateway to the superb Angus Glens and birthplace of Peter Pan author JM Barrie.

Festival walkers can enjoy some of Scotland’s most scenic and peaceful glens including Glens Isla, Prosen, Clova, Doll, Lethnot and Esk. Many of the walks offer the chance to glimpse a wide range of birdlife including the majestic golden eagle, peregrine falcon, dotterel, capercaillie, grouse and ptarmigan, as well as other wildlife such as the red squirrel, adder, roe deer and red deer.

Walks have been graded to allow visitors to select those that are most suitable for their level of fitness, with detailed descriptions of each walk in the programme. Each walk will be led by experienced mountain leaders, and countryside rangers who work and live locally and who will be able to enhance the walking experience with their knowledge of local history, wildlife and land use.

Particular highlights of the AGWF include guided walks to Corrie Fee National Nature Reserve with its collection of rare and nationally important alpine plants; opportunities to climb a number of Munros including Mount Keen - Scotland’s most easterly Munro; and the famous ‘Jock’s Road’ from Braemar to Glen Doll and follow the woodland trail to the Rocks of Solitude with their unusual geology.

Walkers can also enjoy some evening entertainment including a BBQ with traditional music in the beautiful setting of Lochside Lodge near the Loch of Lintrathen, some 'Tales of the Angus Glens' and a Ceilidh Supper at Northmuir Hall, Kirriemuir.

Programmes can be obtained and guided walks booked through the Festival’s booking agent VisitScotland Angus and Dundee, by calling in to their offices at 21 Castle Street, Dundee, DD1 3AA, or by phoning the booking hotline on +44 (0) 1382 527527 or by emailing walkingfestival@angusanddundee.co.uk.
