Dundee set for tourism boost with launch of new website
VisitScotland is set to re-launch their revamped citybreaks website to promote awareness of Scotland’s six cities as the ideal holiday destination with an investment of £185,000.
The site www.visitscotland.com/citybreaks has a brand new look having been developed to incorporate findings from research to determine how effective the site is in attracting visitors to Scotland for a city break. The arts, culture, fine dining and a bustling nightlife will ensure Dundee features prominently.
Visitors from the UK will be the main target for the website as this market is the largest contributor to Scottish tourism.
With enhanced information on the city and a more user-friendly layout, the site will provide a one stop shop for visitors to find out everything they need to know about Scotland’s cities. A calendar on the site will emphasise up and coming events ensuring every aspect of a break in Dundee is highlighted.
Patrick O’Shaughnessy, VisitScotland Angus & Dundee area director said: “The city break website is a key tool for anyone wanting to plan a city break in Dundee. It is important to firstly provide the initial inspiration for a holiday, which I believe this website does, but then also allow the visitor to book accommodation and other aspects of a short break.
“The website will be regularly updated by staff from Dundee allowing us to ensure the information is at its most relevant and most beneficial to visitors and potential visitors.”
In a bid to raise awareness of the website, promotional activity has centred on an online campaign with the Guardian and search engine advertising with Google. To ensure Dundee is seen as a must visit, must return destination a ‘micro site’, http://travel.guardian.co.uk/visitscotland has been created on the Guardian website which features a 24 hour itinerary for the city, a light-hearted quiz, competitions and more information on Scotland’s five other cities.
