Thirteen of some of the finest cafes in Aberdeen City and Shire are joining forces with tourism businesses around the country to help give visitors a sweeter taste of Scotland. The new Scottish Café Days website www.visitscotland.com/cafedays shows visitors where they can get a great cuppa and cake while on holiday as well as promoting the attractions and activities they can experience in the surrounding area.

VisitScotland has designed the campaign to encourage cafes and other tourism businesses to work closely to promote each others’ services to visitors through recommendations and information on the website. The campaign was launched by GMTV's Glasgow born weathergirl Andrea McLean at the Birsay Bay Tearoom on Orkney earlier this month. Andrea said:

"There's no better place to relax and unwind than over a hot cuppa and cake in one of Scotland's best cafes. If visitors know that they can also get great advice about what they can do and see in the area over the cafe counter it will help make Scotland a must visit destination come rain or shine!

All the cafes on the new VisitScotland site were nominated by people who were asked to share the experiences they’ve had visiting the individual cafes and the things to do and see on their doorsteps.

Area Director for VisitScotland Aberdeen and Grampian, Ian Dunlop, said: "This new website uses some of Aberdeen City and Shire’s best cafes as a hook to showcase nearby attractions and activities and help visitors plan an unforgettable trip.

"We need to see more businesses working together to "cross sell" their services through personal recommendations in order to achieve our shared industry ambition to grow tourism revenues by 50% by 2015.”
